visit : In addition to many other villages,
you should visit the medieval town of Cahors and Saint Cirq Lapopie (medieval
village overlooking the Lot, ranked among the most beautiful villages
of France). Two valleys offer the
delights of water : Canoe-kayak on the Lot
and Célé or take a tour boat on the river Lot. Other
sports : Horse riding, caving, climbing,
walking...
Remarkable geological sites : -
The
Grotto of Pech Merle : Incredible
prehistoric paintings and engravings, preserved for 25,000 years. -
The
Phosphati�re du Cloup Aral : Real natural laboratory
of evolution between 52 and 18 million before our era, revealed
by opencast mining in the nineteenth century. Many hiking trails
exist nearby where you can explore on foot, mountain bike (to
rent the cottage) or horseback. Several GR (Grande Randonnée
- Big hikes) trails
are to be found nearby, including the famous GR 65 "Way of St.
James" (1 km away).
The famous pilgrimage trail between
Puy-en-Velay and Saint Jacques de Compostelle. Lake du Fraysse
is only 400 m away. Plenty of opportunities to discover our
rural architecture and buildings (dry stone walls, gariottes,
cazelles, lavoirs, pigeonniers, traditional farms, mills...).

 It is inevitable,
with local famous produce : geese and ducks and their foie
gras, black truffles, lamb, goats cheese, pastis, Quercy melons
and saffron...An experience to be savoured, especially when
partnered with a good Cahors wine! The
opportunity to listen and observe the host of rich flora and
fauna in surrounding area of the gite . The truffle
oaks predominate the area, with many other trees and shrubs:
maples, junipers, plums, hawthorn, ash, wild roses, privets,
boxwood etc. The landscape also reveals moorland and dry grasslands,
which are home to many varied flowers : An example are the
many species of orchids that are abundant on the Causse.

Regional Natural Park of Causses du Quercy acts
to safeguard the natural environment remarkably diverse.
So far, there have been observed: 198 species of birds,
58 species of mammals, 15 species of reptiles, 14 species
of amphibians, 102 species of butterflies, 48 species
of dragonflies, 51 species of insects .There are more
than 1000 species of plants among which 150 are regarded
as remarkable. But this natural heritage is still very
fragile and must be preserved above all by us. |
